Katy Perry: Christian Singer?

Katy Perry, singer of the hit songs "I Kissed a Girl" and "UR So Gay", used to be a Christian singer.

The above video is from 2001. The song is a Christian track called “Faith Won’t Fail,” sung by a 16-year-old girl named Katy Hudson. Hudson changed her name later to Perry (too easily confused with Kate Hudson?) Her parents are both conservative preachers, and so I'm sure they're not too excited about where her new path has taken her!

I'm really happy Katy got out of the Christian music genre. Where would we be without the drunk sorority song "I Kissed a Girl," the metrosexual anthem "UR So Gay" and "Hot N Cold"?

Heidi Montag has a New Single

Heidi Montag is trying to let us all know that she is actually talented at something other than being a life-sized Barbie impersonator. However, thus far it seems she is failing miserably. Every time I hear that Heidi has a new song out, is debuting a fashion line, or is making a cameo in a movie, I just cringe. Just when you think it couldn't get worse with talentless people invading our televisions and computers, it does! I thought you couldn't get any worse than Paris Hilton, but I was wrong. Heidi is what would happen if they put Paris in a machine and turned the annoying level up to 90, then shook it up for a few hours.

Anyway, Heidi has a new single out and it's called "Fashion". It should be called "I Really Just Need to Go Away Already." Because she can't carry a tune in a bucket, all her vocals are enhanced. Just like her boobs. And the rest of her.

I digress...I must have a real mean streak in me today! Anyway, if you want to listen to this crappy song, go here. I'm hoping the only reason you'd want to listen would be for the "It's so bad it's good" aspect.

New Kids on the Block Video: 'Summertime'

The new video for "Summertime" has finally been released by the New Kids on the Block. I'm having a very hard time trying to figure out for what age group this would be appropriate! If you're a teenager, you must be feeling like these are some dirty old men trying to be young again, and if you're their age and you're honestly jamming to this, then I'd say you have problems. This may have been cute when they were young, but I'd say at this point in life, these guys should know better! This is one of the most generic, boring, cliche videos I've seen in awhile.

What do you think: love it or leave it?

Usher Performs on The Tonight Show

Check out Usher on the Tonight Show. I never really listened to much of his music, but this song isn't half bad.

Vanessa Hudgens gets 'Identified'

High School Musical's Vanessa Hudgens has come out with another album. Her sophomore effort is called Identified, and Entertainment Weekly is the first magazine to review it.

“Sneakernight” — The thumping first single “is a fun song about hanging out with your girlfriends and wearing sneakers,” says Hudgens, who’s no stranger to stiletto-induced red-carpet cramps. “When I show the video, I was like, ‘I cannot believe I’m wearing sneakers for the first time in a music video!’ It was awesome.”

“First Bad Habit” — Hudgens enlisted producer Dr. Luke (Kelly Clarkson, Pink) to pump synths into this sassy anthem “about when you like a hug so much but know he’s a complete a–hole.” Is said rapscallion like any particular man in her life? “It hasn’t happened to me, but a lot of my friends have gone through so much crap.”

“Gone with the Wind” — “And now I’m standing my ground/And who I am/For that I’m proud,” she declares in this stripped-down ballad. “I just kind of went for it…. The song basically means: I know a lot more, and that timidness and naïveté is gone with the wind.”

I heard Vanessa sing for the President awhile back, and she was terrible! I can't imagine that people would actually want to listen to her for 12 whole tracks in a row. Seriously, would you buy her CD?

Music Producer Lou Pearlman Gets 25 Years in Prison

Lou Pearlman, the producer who created such manufactured pop groups as the Backstreet Boys and N'Sync, was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Wednesday.

The sentence stems from four federal charges: two counts of conspiracy, and one each of money laundering and using false statements in a bankruptcy proceeding.

Pearlman was found guilty on all counts. Hooray! How could you not look at this guy and not know he was a criminal? Both N'Sync and Backstreet Boys wound up getting away from Pearlman by suing and pursuing their own paths.

Lindsay Lohan in New N.E.R.D. Video

Lindsay Lohan, makes a cameo in the latest video by Farrell and the guys of N.E.R.D. The song is called "Everybody Nose", which is a pretty apt title considering Lindsay Lohan is in it! Kanye West and Lupe Fiasco also make appearances.

Rumer Willis: The Next Pop Star?

Ugh, would you buy this? Music executives are in talks with Rumer Willis about putting out an album!

“She can definitely hold a good tune — keep in mind her mother, Demi, has a sultry, raspy voice, and father, Bruce, likens himself as being a blues artist,” a music insider said. “With the right production and material, she could put out something solid and already people are talking.”

Don't they remember what happened when Bruce Willis tried to cross over into music? Disaster! I don't think it will be any different with Rumer. Let's hope she doesn't try to become a sex symbol!

Madonna 4 Minutes Video

Only 1 day until Madonna's new video "4 Minutes To Save The World" featuring Justin Timberlake will be out. But you can watch a 20 seconds preview of it.

It actually looks kinda cool. Can't wait to see the full video tomorrow!

UPDATE: I replaced the 20 seconds video with the full video! It will probably be pulled off YouTube soon, so watch it now, even though it is not that great. All that hype for nothing...

Paula Abdul "Dance Like There's No Tomorrow"

Paula Abdul is reportedly going to be performing at this year's Superbowl pre-game singing her new single "Dance Like There's No Tomorrow."

You can hear a little of it on Ryan Seacrest's site KIIS-FM.

Too bad that I don't really think Paula is forever our girl. Her new song sucks. Actually, it makes Victoria Beckham's song with Nas "Full Stop" actually sound good in comparison. Yikes. Paula should stick to what she does best now (whatever that is). However, just to reminisce from Paula's better days, check out the video below:

Penelope Cruz and Sister in a Lesbian Kiss?

As mentioned last month, Penelope Cruz and her sister Monica were going to star as porn stars in their brother Eduardo's music video for "Cosas Que Contar." The Sun posted a still photo of the two sisters kissing here. Isn't it hot that they keep it all in the family?

Check out the video below:

Love is Free for Sheryl Crow

Check out the new single and video by Sheryl Crow called "Love Is Free" below. As quoted from Sheryl's website, sherylcrow.com:

The song "Love is Free" is inspired by New Orleans. What struck me about it is the stoicism of the New Orleans people, they are very spiritually based. You can see it in their eyes that they aren't going to give up, they are going to rebuild.

It's a cute and catchy song eh? I like this one better than the songs on her last album so perhaps she's also in a better place with her writing after having her baby Wyatt.

Sheryl's new album "Detours" is set to be released on February 5th just in time for Valentine's Day.

Spice Girls Lip-Synching Tour To Open On Sunday

The Spice Girls will open their world tour on Sunday in Vancouver. Above is one of the Roberto Cavalli sketches for their costumes for the tour. Cavalli said:
"I have known Victoria Beckham for a long time. And I have always admired her style and personality. When we talked about the worldwide tour, The Return of the Spice Girls, she put forward the idea of me creating all their costumes to which I immediately agreed.

When I met them, I immediately understood the reason why the world went crazy for their unique brand of girl power as they are an irresistible mix of energy, pure joy, humor and a spicy dash of glamour. I'm sure their strength will take us by storm again"

Get ready for the biggest lip-synching tour in the history (not counting Milli Vanilli)! Their spokesperson promised that they will sing live at their shows. But I doubt that will happen.

Rob Thomas and John Mayer Collaborate

John Mayer was invited by Rob Thomas to play guitar on the song "Streetcorner Symphony" for his new album. Check out the video below. John Mayer is making those funny faces again like he's moaning, but the video is pretty cool. I love Rob Thomas - he's awesome!

Isn't it interesting how John Mayer can look pretty hot when he's all done up for an event like the above photo of him at the VH1 Save The Music 10th Anniversary Gala in September? I guess it's the artist in him that make him make those facial expressions though eh?

The Spice Girls' New Single Sucks

It was reported that The Spice Girls' big comeback single is not getting any airplay.
Radio 1 downgraded the song to their C-list, which means it gets barely one play a day. The station's Head Of Music, explains:
"The opinion of the Radio 1 playlist team is that the song isn't strong enough.

While a spokeswoman for London's Capital Radio said:
"The Spice Girls aren't playlisted here."
It was also reported that the sells of their single are far from the #1 they were hoping for:
"They wanted it to be a surefire No.1 on downloads alone but it has failed to connect with the public. We're not surprised. The Spice Girls made their name with catchy pop and dreamy ballads - but Headlines is one of the weakest things they've ever done."

Hopefully, their not so good attempt to advertise their new hits album would be more successful. Click here to check out their new hits album.

Billboard Pisses Off Britney Fans

Britney Spears was unrecognizable in her unreleased photo shoot with OK! magazine (yes, the one when she and friends were said to have wiped chicken grease and dog sh*t all over designer dresses).

Anyhoo, Britney's fans are pretty pissed off at Billboard and have a post in a fan site titled:

"F**K YOU BILLBOARD."

I guess they're with Brit-Brit till the end. It's so cute and hilarious at the same time.

On Billboard.com, the latest news is:

"Eagles Fly Past Britney To Debut At No. 1"

Ouch. The truth stings.

Pay As You Want For The New Radiohead CD

Radiohead's new album "In Rainbows" will be available online as of next week. When you order to download the album, you can name your own price. You can even decide to pay $0. I think that this is a cool move on their side. If you remember, their last album "Hail to the Thief" was leaked to the internet before it even went on sale. By offering it for free, they will get more people to buy it legitimately. I'm definitely planning to order it from that website.

Bono is Collaborating with the Spice Girls?

Bono is known for his charity work, but now it looks like he is going a bit further by collaborating with the Spice girls. According to the Daily Mirror, Bono has written a brand new song for the reuniting Spice Girls and will be included in their upcoming greatest hits album which will also be performed during their world tour.

The album could be released as early as November 5th. And a source explains:

"It might seem unusual with the Spice Girls' pop roots and the much more rockier work of Bono, but it works. There's been a bit of unease as to how the album will perform and if there's still a solid Spice Girls' fanbase out there. However Bono's involvement has lifted the whole camp and he's delighted to have been asked and add his experience."

It's all still a bit secretive at the moment though with the name of the song a closely-guarded secret:
"Bono is a brilliant musician and is up for the challenge and can pull off any sort of musical style. Expect the unexpected."

All I can say is that I'm in shock. Bono does love to give of himself and help the needy, but this is way out there. I guess we'll have to see what the message is in the song.
