T.I. Pleaded Guilty to Charges of Weapons Possession

Rapper T.I. has reportedly pleaded guilty to federal charges of weapons possession at a court hearing in Atlanta. T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris, was charged with possession of unregistered machine guns and silencers, as well as possession of firearms by a convicted felon. He faced a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each count.

Holy sh*t! Machine guns?? I guess small handguns just aren't tough enough!

TI was arrested last October just before his scheduled appearance at the BET Hip-Hop awards in Atlanta. Authorities claimed that T.I. provided his bodyguard $12,000 to buy the weapons, which he is not allowed to own because he is a convicted felon.

In a plea agreement the rapper admitted to possessing machine guns and silencers as well as the possession of machine guns and possession of firearms by a convicted felon.

Now he faces a year in jail when he is sentenced next March, while he will be required to fulfill 1,000 hours of community service over the next 12 months talking to youth groups about the pitfalls of guns, gangs and drugs. T.I. has also been ordered to pay a $100,000 fine.

Attorney David Nahmias said:

"If Mr Harris performs as expected, his efforts and ability to reach and influence a large number of young people should prevent and deter at least some of them from committing crimes that endanger their communities and ruin their lives."

What is it with rappers and guns? I wonder what he's going to say to "deter" the youth who look up to him to avoid getting involved with guns, gangs, drugs. Don't get caught?

T.I. had initially denied the weapons possession charges and only fessed up after he faced up to ten years in prison.
