Stingray Kills Woman on Boat in Florida Keys

A 75-pound stingray reportedly killed a 57-year-old woman, Judy Kay Zagorski from Pigeon Michigan when it leapt out of the water and struck her on a boat. It’s unclear whether or not the woman was killed by the penetrating barb as in Steve Irwin’s incident. The Spotted Eagle Ray which can grow up to 17 feet long and 500 pounds, is known for leaping out of the water and sailing through the air.

Officials said it struck her face while she was sitting in the front seat of a boat going 25 mph. Jorge Pino, a spokesman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said the impact likely killed the woman, however an autopsy is planned.

Zagorski’s sister happened to be standing next to her when the stingray flew out of the water while her father drove the boat. Neighbors called 911 after they heard screams and said that Zagorski’s sister tried desperately to save her life. However, when she was taken to Fisherman’s Hospital she was sadly pronounced dead.

How bizarre eh? Very shocking and sad at the same time!
