Jeff Healey Dies of Cancer at Age 41
Legendary rock and jazz guitarist Jeff Healey has reportedly lost his battle with cancer Sunday as fans and bandmates mourned his death at age 41. Despite his long battle with cancer, his bandmates were shocked. Healey died Sunday evening in a Toronto hospital surrounded by his family and bandmate Colin Bray. Bray said:
“I don’t think any of us thought this was going to happen. We just thought he was going to bounce back as he always does.”
Healey battled cancer since the age of one which was a rare form of retinal cancer known as Retinoblastoma which claimed his eyesight. Bray revealed that Healey’s advanced lung cancer made his final hours difficult.
He rose to stardom as the leader of the Jeff Healey Band with international acclaim and platinum record sales with the 1988 album “See the Light” as you can see him performing it live in the video above.
What a terrible loss for his family and friends as well as his many fans. May he R.I.P. now.
