American Idol 7 Top 10 Performed Birth Year Songs

Believe it or not, tonight’s American Idol Top 10 show wasn’t so bad. At least they didn’t get the chance to butcher the Beatles again as none of them were born during the 60s. While I think it’s kind of a lame theme to sing a song from the birth year, some of the performances were actually enjoyable. Here’s a review and a prediction of who’ll be in the bottom 3 and the next reject:

  • Ramiele Malubay - did “Alone” by Heart and it just wasn’t good. Paula Abdul made sure to point out she was sick. Okay so for being sick, it’s a little understandable, but it was a horrible performance.
  • Jason Castro - performed Sting’s “Fragile” and it was just okay. He didn’t do anything special with it, but it wasn’t bad.
  • Syesha Mercado - sang “If I were Your Woman” and I thought she did a beautiful job. Her voice sounded so clear and crisp when she was going for those high notes. Simon Cowell was saying the ending wasn’t that great, but I disagree.
  • Chikezie Ezie - went back to what he’s most comfortable with…the soulful ballads that Luther Vandross was famous for, performing “If Only For One Night.” He sang it well, but it was on the boring side.
  • Brooke White - played the piano while singing “Every Breath You Take” by the Police. It was a decent performance, at least, much better than last week’s disaster.
  • Michael Johns - rocked the house with Queen’s “We Will Rock You” and it was hot!
  • Carly Smithson - not sure why she chose to sing “Total Eclipse of the Heart” but she did a good job with it. Nothing spectacular, but she’s not a bad singer so it wasn’t awful. I don’t know why so many people have to do that song on this show though…if you remember, Jessica Sierra sang it on the show a few seasons ago too.
  • David Archuleta - the poor puppy sucked tonight! I don’t even know what that song was that he chose, but it was horrendous. I wonder if his Daddy picked the song…at least I hope he did so he can blame himself rather than yell at David for this.
  • Kristy Lee Cook - can’t believe this girl is still around, but she performed “God Bless the USA” and Simon pointed out that she made a wise choice in singing that song. He’s right…even though she didn’t sing it that well, people seem to love that song and will vote for her because of it.
  • David Cook - did the most interesting version of Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” and it was excellent!

Faves tonight: Michael Johns and David Cook - both could end up as the Top 2
Bottom 3 prediction: 1) Chikezie Ezie, 2) Ramiele Malubay, 3) David Archuleta? (Well, he deserves to be in it at least) …if not David, maybe Kristy Lee Cook (I hope, but it’s doubtful since she sang such a patriotic song.)
Who’ll probably be getting the boot: Chikezie Ezie
