Kathryn Faughey, a New York psychologist was reportedly found slashed to death in her office building at 79th Street and York last night. Another therapist was seriously injured as well and the suspect is still at large! Police believe that Dr. Faughey was killed by a patient during a session at 9pm. The other therapist, Dr. Kent Shinback who was injured is a colleague in the same practice. Apparently, he heard her screaming and tried to stop the patient, but he was “slashed numerous times in the face and neck,” according to the Daily News. The suspect was described as a white middle-aged male with blond/light hair who possibly fled through the basement.

There were two weapons found on the scene: a meat cleaver and a 9-inch knife, both of which were bent from the attacks. A doorman told the Post that he witnessed the suspect go into the building, but didn’t see him leave. He said:

“He looked like a psycho.”

The police source described the vicious attack to the News:

“Lots of anger. This was clearly personal.”

Dr. Shinbach is at the New York Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell in serious but stable condition.

How scary!!! OMG! This makes me feel lucky not to have entered work in the field of mental health right now. I can’t imagine what Dr. Faughey went through with being attacked in that manner. Dr. Shinbach will probably have to go to therapy himself since he survived it. Yikes. I hope they catch the psycho right away!
