"Sweet Caroline" Revealed by Neil Diamond
photo courtesy of PR Photos/www.prphotos.comNeil Diamond finally revealed the inspiration for his song “Sweet Caroline” as President John F. Kennedy’s daughter, Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg. He said:
“I’ve never discussed it with anybody before – intentionally. I thought maybe I would tell it to Caroline when I met her someday.”
Diamond finally did meet her while performing the song via satellite for Caroline’s 50th birthday celebrations. He revealed that when he saw her “innocent, wonderful” picture in a magazine, he was inspired to write beautiful, sweet song. He said:
“I’m happy to have gotten it off my chest and to have expressed it to Caroline. I thought she might be embarrassed, but she seemed to be struck by it and really, really happy.”
When I was little, I didn’t care much for the song, but after hearing the song so many times over the years, it really grew on me. I think that’s so sweet that Neil Diamond told her about this on such a special day. I know, I’m kinda sappy eh?
