Southern California Fires Force 250,000 to Evacuate

According to Bloomberg.com, more than 250,000 people have been evacuated from their homes in Southern California as some of the worst wildfires ever, fueled by strong winds, scorched more than 100,000 acres and caused at least one death.

There are twelve wildfires that are being fed by winds, high temperatures and low humidity which have burned more than 100,665 acres (40,739 hectares) from Santa Barbara to San Diego County near the Mexican border.

Some property owners tend to wait until the last possible minute to evacuate, but I certainly hope that today they are listening to fire fighters. Property and material things are not worth any lives. When I lived in La Costa (in San Diego) about 10 years ago, I had to evacuate from a bad fire, but I stupidly drove to one point and walked by foot to my home to go and grab some of my things while homes in my area were burning down to the ground. People should leave the area when they are told to!

We hope everyone affected by the fires can find safe shelter.
