Former bad girl Shannen Doherty is feeling bad for the young troubled starlets: Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, etc. because she feels they are subjected to more pressure than she was. She reflected on her experience as a young celeb and believes that the young celebs of today are engaging in extreme behavior. She told People magazine:

“It’s totally different today. (The attention) is to an extreme now that I can’t relate to. My heart goes out to all of them and I certainly hope that they keep their heads up and most importantly they keep their self-respect. When I went and got drunk at a bar when I was 12 years old, it was like the biggest deal in the world. And now these girls, that’s like a night at home for them. I don’t know why it’s acceptable, and now at my age I look at it and I’m like, ‘Oh, honey, don’t do that.’ It’s growing pains, right? Everybody’s got to grow up and make their own decisions. All those girls will learn something from the experience, and that’s all that matters.”

It’s interesting that Shannen says she can’t relate to the “extreme” attention and says that what the young starlets are going through and doing now is “totally different” than it was for her. At least she sympathizes with them. I’m sure many people are relieved Shannen grew up though. If she was going through now what she did then, I think it would have been far worse than what we see in Paris, Lindsay, and Britney. Shannen was a terror and it wasn’t thaat long ago was it? Sounds like someone’s got a bit of selective memory.
