George Clooney is Pretty Smart

George Clooney reportedly sought advice from Bono before he spoke out against the genocide in the Darfur region of Sudan. He apparently wanted to make sure he approached the issue as effectively as possible in order to get public support as well as believe in his intentions. Clooney said:
“We had long conversations… (so) people can’t dismiss you as just an entertainer. Bono is very good at putting a laser focus on a specific issue. So when they come at him, whether they like it or not, at least you don’t feel like, well, here’s some rock ‘n’ roller just spewing out ideological theories. He sets the bar way, way high.”
It was actually smart of him to consult Bono about his plans because Bono has been one of the most effective celebrity campaigners against poverty. He’s lucky too. I’d love to have long conversations with Bono!

Given that the Darfur “genocide” is actually a backroom deal of the Republicans with the UN in order to convince the world that there is a need for troops there, and that it’s really the oil there that is sought after, I think on this one issue, George is really missing the boat. A simple google search of the oil in darfur tells the story.

You’ve got a point about the oil actually. I’ve read that this oil that China purchases from Sudan is one of their largest sources for the country. And perhaps the US and perhaps the UN have taken a blind-eye to that. I don’t know if I agree that George is completely missing the boat here though. It’s a very complex issue and if he’s using his star power to even save one life there, hey…it’s more than some of us are doing. Thanks for your message though. Cheers.
LOL, but how did Bono feel about being asked?

Okay, that’s not really Bono. I’m sure Bono was really quite flattered
I think that its great that celebrities are starting to do something about Darfar. Where celebrities go, reporter follow. Especially hot celebs like Clooney!
